No. The bowl and the downstem both come in the box already matched to the joint, so it's usable the day it arrives. The only thing worth adding is a spare bowl, since that's the part that gets dropped.

The 50mm neck is wide enough to drop cubes down, which is the usual fix for the extra warmth that comes with a shorter bong. Use small cubes and don't fill the neck, or you'll restrict the pull rather than cool it.

Depends what you're comparing to. Against a full size beaker it runs warmer and holds less smoke. Against a hand pipe it's a completely different experience. For a first bong or a second one for a small room it hits the right balance.

Take it out first and clean it separately, never while it's seated. Downstems snap at the joint more than anywhere else, almost always because someone twisted one while it was still in the bong. Soak it in isopropyl in its own container.
